Nannimponna (to be smart), a soldier, played by Kip;
10th Communion (cont’d)
scenes
There’s a party after the welcoming ceremony, apparently. —And there’s a council meeting! The Chatelaine informs Perdix directly, herself. She doesn’t take Ishkin’s word that he’ll tell them.
Calvus talks to Nil about the messages he’ll be sending to Annalum, in case Nil wanted to send anything along; Nil doesn’t, but appreciates the offer. Calvus understands Nil will be attending the council meeting, at least in part. He also brings up the messages he’s been sending to the Cristoférian council and Quintus Opacus. They arrange to meet perhaps the day after the walls have been walked. Nil brings up the surveys he intends to take of the area, once things have calmed down, of course.
Utchka and Ishta had beers together the night before.
Perdix insists their apprentice stay in the trunk while they’re in the council meeting; when the apprentice asks for something to do, they toss her Viscus vim, saying Insomnium probably hasn’t read this. —When Perdix has left, there’s a knock; Ishkin opens the door and informs Cameron the magus is out. I suppose it would be rude to go in and get stoned without them, hm? Yes, says Ishkin. Do you see a way around this? No, says Ishkin. I really enjoy these little chats, says Cameron. Ishkin shuts the door.
Ishta tells Nishoba to go visit his little friend. Or his aunt. Utchka. Have a beer with her. She’s really nice. Oh all right, says Nishoba.
Tully’s in the council chamber already, surrounded by paper and an odd contraption. Gi’s in shortly after. Sonata’s last. She apologizes. Her work. —Tully proposes Utchka for membership; some discussion. Since she hasn’t said anything about the idea herself. It’s decided to offer her an interim membership, and to attempt to achieve consensus on her joining permanently after the first of the year. Some discussion of the charter, and consensus. Perdix asks Tully if he’s done anything green. No, says Tully. Is that something you wanted to discuss? says Gi. No, says Perdix. Then let’s move on. —Receptrix: Perdix perhaps knows her best, but Perdix says she’s past his time. Some discussion of time limits on guests; she’s planning on staying only about two seasons, and made a gift of vis. Then, Nil: he’s been assigned to us. Some discussion of Cristofér’s ability to push covenants around. Sonata proposes that Nil be invited to join as a full member. Some alarm at this idea. Perdix supports it. Calvus objects; consensus can’t be achieved, not yet. Calvus isn’t happy about the past Nil shares with his lineage. Some careful fencing about the subject no one wants to talk about except Tully; Perdix insists Calvus assign any blame equally, and Calvus says oh, he is. —Ishta brings up the incident in the Great Hall, and Nil speaking disparagingly of the covenant to the priests. This leads into a discussion of the relationship with the priests, and Jerry, and how to handle lines of communication in crises.
There’s a knock at Perdix’ door. Ishkin opens the door. I’ve decided I can live with being a little bit rude. He walks over to the trunk. Ishkin has no instructions on how to handle a strange apprentice bursting into the lab, so he shrugs. Cameron pounds on the floor next to the trunk’s door. There’s no sound inside. May we talk? Not a word. I’ve brought talking-juice. Still nothing. Cameron shrugs and leaves. Ishkin sees him out. Ilba asks Ishkin what that was about; Ishkin says Cameron just wanted to get stoned. Would you tell Perdix it’s not my fault if they decide to care? Sure, says Ishkin, who goes back to cutting shingles for the castle.
It’s suggested Jerry act as point man, between the magi and priests, but it’s really up to Ishta, as the role of liaison is her bailiwick and her decision, and she’s worried Jerry might have too much on her plate. However, now that there’s a full complement of priests, the magi ought to meet with them, officially.
Some discussion of apprentices, and appropriate boundaries for dealing with Perdix’ apprentice. Which segues into a discussion of man-eating trees and the walking of the walls and the Princeling’s hunt. It’s decided to attempt to dissuade the Princeling, or protect him if he will not be dissuaded. What to do about the forest? Talk to the priests, work to study the forest, find what can be found and deal with it. Perhaps work a spell similar to that which created little Andrew? Embody the taint, and send Calvus and Murry to kill it? Yes, but it would be rather large. Indeed. (The monkeys start up in Sonata’s head.)
Nil is brought in, and he’s prepared some remarks while he’s been waiting. He points out that Nemus Animæ is a focal point in the struggle for Gætan, and not a place of retreat; the front line, not a rear guard. He is not here to spy; his work is our work. He has entered a time of service. He’s here for our success. Tully applauds at the conclusion of the speech; Nil is welcomed. Sonata questions him about his hermitage in as he put it “the woods.” He had some encounters with monsters in that time. Tully questions him about his spectacles. Sonata excuses herself to continue her work. Ishta brings up the party that they are all to attend, to informally welcome Fohi to the town; Perdix is surprised, and excuses themselves.
Nishoba goes to hang out with Utchka for the afternoon, and asks her what Tully was like as a young crank. She has lots and lots of stories.
Perdix tells Ilba they have to go to a party. Ilba tells Perdix about Cameron and Sonata doing something very stupid. Perdix says they’ll deal with it later, and maybe it’s best if she’s away from Sonata’s work for a bit. They’ll take my coming as an affront, says Ilba. Well, at least we’ll know, says Perdix. Is that what you’re wearing?
Calvus approaches Murry as the soldiers are drilling. He wants to know how things have been. Murry tells him about the trouble with the liquor ritual: it’s a security precaution, not a party. But other than that. Calvus tells Murry about what Buster’s been up to with Gi’s room. Murry is, astonishingly enough, surprised. He’d rather not execute Buster. Calvus doesn’t feel execution is necessary; torture, perhaps. He then tells Murry about the idea of fighting the force embodying the forest taint. Calvus allows as how working the spell to do the embodying maybe isn’t a great idea, but hunting the boar might be. Some discussion of what such a hunt might entail.
Gi and Nil have a post-council meal. Nil wants to know if Sonata is willfully possessed; I think so, says Gi. Just wanted to make sure, says Nil. I wish her hair would stop doing that, says Gi.
Murry announces to the soldiers that anyone involved in Buster’s scheme will be punished; Mitahaffi raises his hand. I just got back from being punished. Murry determines who’s been using the room; there are some punches. Meet me by the stocks in half an hour. Murry goes to tell Jerry that he is the one who will punish his men. Jerry says that was actually Gi’s decision. Oh, says Murry. Jerry says Nannimponna was involved, too. Murry says Jerry can borrow any soldiers from the stocks he wants to work the bellows. Murry goes to confront Nannimponna and Buster on the walls.
At the stocks, Nannimponna points out there’s a conspicuous absence: Hoopoe. When Murry assigns them to build additional stocks to hold all of them, Nannimponna points out they’ll also need a bird cage. Murry allows as how he can only punish the soldiers under his command; anything else is up to the magi. —Jerry gives Murry some beer and a blacksmith’s puzzle in gratitude for the free labor. Nannimponna heads off to the shed to fetch some lumber.
Ilba asks Perdix to visit Sonata; Perdix reluctantly agrees. Ilba can hear the Monkey-voices in Sonata’s head. The Kitten-Monkey has been hauled into Sonata’s head as he sleeps; Sonata is negotiating with him and her voices as she speaks with Ilba, who is spooked and wants to leave. She insists she can do something, but Perdix wouldn’t let her. Sonata and the Kitten try to reach some accord on not bothering him while he sleeps.
Calvus and the Wolf Priest discuss the current situation.

Some discussion of possible husbands for Fohi; Woochi, it seems, has a wife, and two kids. There’s a master builder. There’s soldiers. Some discussion also of “normative” Gætani pairings. An unmarried pickler, and tanner; “Can we please pick someone who doesn’t smell funny?” says Dylan. The silversmith is unmarried. Fohi’s not interested in soldiers. Bubbles would smell funny after work.
“I have neither tit nor tat in this particular discussion.”

Christian Slater in "Heathers"
So, Kip, did you intend Nannimponna to be played by Christian Slater in "Heathers"? That's how he came across to me.
Ditto.
Ditto.
Dogberry
Actually, I was thinking it was more like Michael Keaton in "Much Ado About Nothing"
Better than Keanu Reeves.
Better than Keanu Reeves.
A plain spoken villian
That's actually Elias.
He is an ass.
Dogberry’s closer, though through no conscious effort of my own. He just kinda bubbled up. We see much more of him, though, he may end up closer to Milo Minderbinder than anything else.
See, I was thinking Heathers too.
But maybe thats cause it was just on tv the day before.
