House Derleth

The new House was originally going to be named "House Elizabeth," for its spiritual founder, Elizabeth of Po. Just before the census was released, however, Elizabeth's filius Derleth, founder of Bethelion and one of the most active proponents of the foundation of the new House, fell into a Twilight from which it was doubted he would ever emerge. Elderly and ailing, Derleth had put the last of his energy into convincing the Annalum Cristofereans to help him to realize his dream; to honor his sacrifice, therefore, at the last minute the name of the new House was changed to House Derleth.

Although graduates of the University were now recognized as Derlethians, members of their own House Derleth, they were still listed on the Census of 418 primarily by their other House affiliations, those determined by their descent from the original founders of the Order. So, there were now Cristoferean Derlethians, Aegidian Derlethians, Touccian Derlethians... but no just plain Derlethians. In 418 the members of the new House Derleth were far too elated by their diplomatic victory to object to this system. Within two years, however, the problems inherent in the "second-class House" would come to light, and by 421 the question of how to resolve the Derlethian dilemma would become one of the driving issues of Order policy.
