Cercopithecus

("The Monkey")
filius Cornix, of House Cristofer
apprenticed 395; mage 410

Antrum: 395-412
Hart's Desire: 412-

Raised by the reclusive leper Cornix, Cercopithecus and his best friend Casca became interested in Plenilunial Elementalism while apprentices together at Covenant Antrum. Even before their graduations to magehood, they had been in heavy correspondence with the elementalists, who were impressed by their theoretical writings. When Casca graduated to magehood in 412, both of the young magi left Antrum to join elementalist covenants: Casca went to Whitestone, while Cercopithecus joined Hart's Desire.

Since then, the magi of Hart's Desire have begun to wonder whether they might not have made a terrible mistake. Cercopithecus' Elementalist theory is indeed impressive, but his eccentricities have caused difficulties between the covenant and its mundane allies. Many are beginning to suspect that he might have been drawn to the elementalist movement primarily due to its history of gender confusion: Cercopithecus is a cross-dresser, and he seems to enjoy fostering the impression that he his sexual proclivities are...unorthodox. Hart's Desire's Council has recently been forced to formally demand that he desist from masquerading as a woman to seduce the fishermen of nearby Corinth, and many suspect that the withdrawal of the young Savacion Viridunculus from the covenant proper to his boat which he keeps moored nearby may be a direct result of his deep discomfort with Cercopithecus' eccentricities. Cercopithecus came to Hart's Desire with glowing letters of recommendation from the elder magi of Antrum. Many now suspect that the Antrumites just wanted to be rid of the freak.

Although he has been a member of Hart's Desire for over a decade now, Cercopithecus has established few close personal relationships with anyone at the covenant. Whether he wants them or not, however, is unclear: his attentions are mainly directed towards his friend, the seemingly normal Casca, at Covenant Whitestone. Cercopithecus and Casca seem to be engaged in their own personal interpretation of Elementalist polarity, and their experimentations do not often involve others within the movement.

In his Elementalist practice, he has specialized almost exclusively in the Fire/Water Secondary often known as "the Lighthouse." He also takes a strong interest in real lighthouses, and has constructed a number of them along the Rhythnorian coast and out on the islands of Chalycidice.

Possibly as a result of his parens Cornix's terrible affliction, Cercopithecus keeps himself and his surroundings fastidiously, excruciatingly--some might even say pathologically--clean.
