filius Ciconia, of House Cristofer
apprenticed 398; mage 413
Tempestatem Sedare: 398-418
Mille Lacus: 418-420
Annalum: 420-
Raised at Tempestatem Sedare. In 418, he and his parens Ciconia were sent by the House to Covenant Mille Lacus to enquire about the status of the Covenant's founders for the census of that year. Once there, Ciconia learned that Mille Lacus' founders, the Power Trio, had created as their last great device a machine designed to keep them animated as coherent ghosts, presumably perpetually.
There was some question of whether this device was in fact theocratic; it was certainly of dubious orthodoxy. Ciconia, however, desired the secret of its manufacture for herself, and so instead of reporting it to Annalum, she remained at Mille Lacus, threatening to expose the Mille Lacusians to the Order if they did not teach her the knowledge requisite to build such a device. Unfortunately, the Mille Lacusians themselves had no idea how the machine had been built; terrified of exposure, however, they offered her access to the device and aid in her attempts to unravel its secrets. Ennius remained at Mille Lacus with Ciconia for the next two years, over which time Ciconia became more and more convinced that the Lacusians were holding out on her.
When in 420 Ciconia vanished, along with two of the elder Mille Lacusians, Ennius suspected foul play and, panicking, fled to Leo Compulsus, where he told the Savacions there about the device in question, thus bringing about the bloodshed of the Mille Lacus Incident of 420. During the incident itself, Ennius remained safe at Leo Compulsus; afterwards, he was brought to Annalum by Quentin.
Ennius is in disgrace with House Cristofer, both because of the trouble he caused and because of his role in the blackmail of the Lacusian magi. He is not trusted by the Council and is being kept at Annalum largely so that the other magi can keep a careful eye on him. This situation is chafing, and Ennius is a strongly disaffected presence at the covenant.
