Calvus' War

This is me storing my thoughts about the war that Calvus' plans on waging in a few years. This will be constantly revisited by me as I edit it, adding new thoughts and concerns. The feel I am going for is during the war to be like last season and a half of Deep Space Nine, where Nemus Animae will remain the focus of play where battle reports and lists of the dead will come in, and if people want to play the occasional combat out in the DMZ then so be it, and for the end of the war I'm going for post-WW1 France.

Pre-war setup: Annex the Sudetenland, train the local populace to rough militia quality, start monastic school for children to make them into Calvus' Youth Corp whose job it will be to rebuild the Wide Valley after the war has been fought, try to get Ventrian assistance, get Wendelians and Quintus Opacans (not at the same time) to do research on and try to assassinate and take the armor of a Red Moon priest, also get them to do further research on Millers, get Gens Draconis to commit to fighting and be willing to be in the same vicinity as other Savacions, get as many Gens support as possible, The Pass fortress built, get Prince to send an envoy to the Gaetani King to delay any Gaetani buildup for war, get Caligatus to help with the campaign planning and oversight, possibly talk to Wolf Elves depending on what Order mages think after we capture one, keep Ndape's training oriented towards mass casualty warfare,

War: Open earth spell covered by illusion works on trapping/killing a Red Moon Priest. Order army will be split into three operations: Gens Draconis w/support will be the shock troops devastating the people and the country side, Wendelians and/or Quintus Opacans (again, not working together just with the same agenda) will assassinate Millers and Red Moon Priests, the latter when not in their armor, and disrupt key points, the rest will operate as an organized army. If war is prolonged eventually leading to poisoning of wells, offering position and wealth to any Gaetani who helps bring down Millers or Red Moon Priests. Few magical peoples deaths but massive general population deaths, unless the Order can pull off another slaughter of Millers in one of the adjacent Miller regions (which is part of the plan). Gens Draconis and friends I think should be scary good once let loose in open, no holds barred war, which eventually when the Order/Wide Valley forces come into areas of horrific slaughter will adversely affect the Wide Valley troops morale. Personal view is Opacans will not be so good at the actual assassinating, the Wendelians will be better, but the Opacans will be the Q of the Order as far as discovering what works against the magical heroes of Gaetan.

Outcome of war: This is just what I'm aiming for right now, events can happen inspired by anyone, perhaps even myself that could change any of these outcomes. Just making it clear that I am looking for a post WW1 feel not a triumphant Roman general coming back from the campaigns. Several miles of both countries (Gaetan and the Wide Valley) devastated by the warfare, with sections that are unlivable due to war time catastrophes/curses, Doomed brother dies, populations of both countries brought to post WW1 French standards, complex political outcome, possibly meaning that the Order is on uneasy footing in Wide Valley but perhaps Calvus is seen well by the Order all the while Calvus is burdened with a little-brother's-death-angst-slump.

Free tutoring...
So while out making their wildlife documentary about Wolf Elves, I think Calvus would think that not only making a public school for Nemus Animae would be good but also talking to the Prince about starting public schools throughout the Valley. He would discuss this with Leonis Lenis. This would help indoctrinate the children in being people of the Valley and standardize the language more, and all that other good public schooling stuff.

Agreed
Again, anything you say about this to Nil will meet with tons of encouragement and offers of help and advice and probably, if Calvus doesn't stop him, a copy of a long report Nil wrote on the schoolhouse he helped run in the village he stayed in.

Nil will basically offer to write the grant application to get the entire thing its own sovereign wedge of the Order's budget, with extra financial support from House Cristofer with the understanding that Nil is their representative. Also he will offer to teach Cholaeic, literacy, and basic tenets of Love and Reason.

Quintus Opacan Quietitude
My feeling on the Quintus Opacus issue is that the Cristoferian High Council is unwilling to give permission for Opacans to cross the Lun. However, they are unwilling to deny Opacans from helping in what is brewing quickly into a situation against Theocrats to the extreme south.

What I imagine this will lead to is a round about unofficial comment to either the Opacans or some ally to them that if the Opacans found some of theirs in Gaetan, no action would be taken unless they touched a single mage, at which point the Opacans would be hunted, or something to that effect. Either that or the deafening silence from Cristofer can say effectively the same in a more subtle way.

I think I'm with you on this
I think I'm with you on this one.

When it comes to Opacans, I don't think Cristofer (and by extension the Custodire...) would want to leave it up to interpretation. Paperwork would be done up and transcripts taken and signed by reliable witnesses, so that the moment an Opacan nudges somebody on the shoulder nobody can say boo when the napalm starts flying.

Frankly I think Nil and Calvus might very well be sent on a quiet diplomatic field trip to communicate the council's feelings as explicitly as possible.
