For many years, the only female members of House Touccio were the descendants of Balbo's grandaughter, Daenae. "Daughters of Daenae" technically refers to the members of these Cholaeic lines, but it is often also used to refer to any female members of House Touccio.
The Daughters of Daenae are believed by many within the Order to be at best sexually "loose," at worst sexually predatory, manipulative, untrustworthy and treacherous. It is true that perhaps an inordinate number of the magae of this line have gained notoriety for their romantic relationships with male magi, particularly with members of House Savacion. Both Onyx and Winnifred bore children to their Savacion lovers; Rosamund joined with Julian to specialize in the magical study of eros; the Savacion Cordurus was believed to have joined the Carnifex as a result of having his heart broken by his Touccian colleague, the Elementalist Sappira.
Nonetheless, Daenae's Daughters' reputation for sexual promiscuity is still far out of proportion to the reality of their behavior, and their reputation for sexual predation and deceit has little bearing in any recorded historical fact. It is also a bit difficult to establish cause and effect here: rumours about Daenae having once supported herself through prostitution and claims about the supposed promiscuity of her descendants were extent within the Order long before any of the incidents which some magi now point to as evidence of the "fact" of these stereotypes; it is possible that to some extent the Order's expectations of the Daughters of Daenae have simply encouraged them to exercise less discretion than their peers do when it comes to intra-Order liaisons.
Regardless of the degree of truth to or the origins of the stereotypes, though, the fact now stands that female Touccians, no matter how chaste their actual conduct, are all too often forced to put up with a good deal of sniggering, innuendo and sometimes outright sexual harassment from their male colleagues --a state of affairs for which many of them do not thank those of their sisters who chose to live up to type.
