b. 27
d. 84
Son of a Rhowen horse-breeder, neighbor to St. Pyrandor's foster-father, St. Sibellius. As a boy, he was accidentally transformed into horse form at Pyrandor's birth, taking the foal Pyrandor's place. Later in life, he was restored to human form and taken into Sibellius' household.
Ambitious and ruthless, he first betrayed Sibellius to Iam's Stewards, and later, Iam's Rhowen Stewards to Iam himself. He had expected to be rewarded for his treachery; Iam, however, told him that while he really needed no more disloyal servants in his employ, he could desperately use a good horse --and returned him to the form in which he had spent his youth. To his credit, Incatallus did serve Iam faithfully as his steed for the next twenty years. He was restored to human form shortly after Iam's death, and shortly before his own, on the battlefield of the Plains of Dor in 84.
After Iam's fall, the herd descended from those horses Incatallus had foaled on Sibellius' mares during his youth in Rhowen were doomed to produce a magical heir in every generation, to serve the heirs of Sibellius in atonement for their progenitor's betrayal. For years, service of one of these animals was viewed as something akin to a signifier of divine right for the rulers of Rhowen. After the Andar invasion of 168, however, the line of succession from Sibellius was broken, and the horses of Rhowen stopped producing any noticably magical foals.
