One-in-four Oath

Oath taken by members of House Cristofer to spend one season out of every year in service to the Order. Exactly what constitutes "service to the Order" has never been specified. The magi of Annalum emerged in the fourth century as the arbiters of the one-in-four oath, and today their right to demand its fulfillment in the form of specific services goes virtually unchallenged. Cristofereans are asked to fulfill their one-in-four in a number of different ways, most commonly through scribing, messenger duties, or the creation of enchanted devices. The one-in-four oath is the only requisite for mage membership in House Cristofer: any mage may claim Cristoferean status at any time, merely by formally swearing the one-in-four oath in the presence of authorized witnesses. This ease of membership has made Cristofer a popular refuge for magi faced with unbearable hostility from their original Houses; such renunciates, however, are usually not very well-respected within the Order, and it is a well-known fact that Annalum works them much harder than it does other members of the House.
