filius Caligatus, of Houses Derleth and Savacion
apprenticed 404; declared mage 419; gauntletted 420
Bethelion's only Savacion Loriat to date, Loratus won out over his classmates in a very heated, years-long competition for the coveted title, largely due to the facility and interest he showed for unusual independent study and for his ability to reconcile trans-House training methods. Although his mentor Caligatus was descended from Wendell, Caligatus himself had no interest in Wendellian magics. In fact, his branch of the House had been disinterested in Wendellian magics for so long that many had forgotten that they were Wendellians at all. Loratus, however, was fascinated by this facet of his lineage and chose to specialize in Wendellian theory and lore during his years at Bethelion, seeking training not only from his grandparens Lagopus at Antrum and from the aged Meles at Niveum Pomeridianum, but also from the Caesian Cristoferean Vyreth and her descendants at the University. His ability to reconcile some of the ramblings of Bethelion’s Litan lecturer Pastor into his understanding of Wendellian theory also impressed the Covenant elders, as did his willingness to forego strategic advantage in the competition for the Loriatship in favor of service to the Order: as a student, he accompanied Circumsessor and Caligatus south to Gaetan to aid them in their battles with the Millers.
He joined Covenant Antrum immediately upon his ascension to magehood and was recognized by House Savacion one year later, at the 420 gauntlet in Leo Compulsus, although he came very close to failing to complete his gauntlet at all: his parens Caligatus, who was absurdly proud of him, had as part of a drunken wager arranged to have him so seriously handicapped that he was the very last of the candidates to make it back, and only narrowly made the deadline at all.
In 421, Loratus escorted the Cristoferean investigators to Isrillion, where as a member of Perfidius' Wendellian lineage, he claimed the right of execution of Tenellus, bearing with him a replica of the axe used by the Savacions of Antrum in the third century to put Eleanoreans to death. After Tenellus' acquittal, he continued on to Leo Compulsus, where he was heavily involved in the reorganization of the House and engineering of the House Conference of 423, after the conclusion of which he returned to Antrum. He belongs to the Derlethian Gens, led by his parens, Caligatus.
