The Fall of the Theocracy

With the coming of Love and Reason, the liberation of mankind, and the Dissipation of the God Emperor, the Theocracy fell. The Cholaeic Calendar dates from the final Dissipation of the God Emperor, said to have occurred on the winter solstice between the years 0 and 1. The Fall of the Theocracy saw the end of the Demiurge's reign, and in it most of the Theocrats and their magical structures either vanished or were destroyed. Only a handful of the Theocrats were to survive the Fall, but they were to have a disproportionate effect on the early history of the lands later known as Tympania.

Of the magical seats of the Priest Kings of the Theocracy, most have disappeared so completely that even knowledge of their original locations has been lost, and they serve merely as topics of debate and hypothesis for scholars. Only a few are known to the Order. The palace of Orsa, home to the Priest King who ruled over the Orsinian marshes, is known to have existed at the mouth of the River An; even before the fall of the Theocracy, however, it was destroyed and submerged beneath the delta, and it has never been excavated or recovered. Pandrell, the seat of the Priest King of Chaeronia, was left intact but abandoned, as was the power center of the city of Quintillica. The citadel of Vestra, however, was never wholly abandoned. Home first to the sorceress Isdanor, daughter of the Priest King of Vestra, and later to the Council of Vestran Stewards, its occupation shaped the history of Tympania.
