The Pan-Manerean Conference and the End of the Schism (339-340)

This is a summary of The Pan-Manerean Conference and the End of the Schism, the tenth chapter of A Brief History of the Order. The original is in 4 parts.

  • In 339, mage war once more threatens the Order when hostilities erupt between the magi of the Carnifex and Quintus Opacus and the Dawn Manereans of Prima Lux. This time war seems so inevitable that magi throughout the Order reinforce their covenants and abandon outside projects. Once more, however, the Order is snatched from the jaws of war by the last-minute diplomatic efforts of the magi of Annalum and Plenilunium Album, who organize a summit, the Pan-Manerean Conference, held at Annalum in 340.
  • House Manere is reunited at the Pan-Manerean Conference when both the Primi of Dawn and West agree to step down in favor of the Plenilunial Manerean Vespera, who becomes Prima of a reintegrated House Manere. The Carnifex is ordered to cease all harrassement of Prima Lux, while the Prima Luxians agree to open their covenant to Westerners.
  • Many traditionalists are angered by the resolution to the Schism, which they refer to as "the Appeasement to Diabolism." Ill-feeling against the Plenilunial peace-keepers consolidates partisan divisions within the Order, which are now cemented into the divisions that still define Order politics today.
