When Are Savacion Gauntlets?

So this came up in game... What time of the year do Savacions hold their Gauntlet? I for some reason got it in my head that it was held during the summer some time. Kip thought it would be held this winter. My thought on summer time is that Tension, Strife, Dominion and the holidays Transformation and Passion seem much more Savacion-y to me then Union, Wisdom, Despair and the holidays Ascension and Dissipation. Those are all wonderful months and holidays in concept and Savacions all across the Known World give them their due respect, but those are not the "butt kicking for goodness" times of the year like summer is.

Also who wants to travel to Leo Compulsus during the winter? Sure every Savacion worth his salt knows Seven League Stride, but they often come with body guards and well their own apprentices who might not.

Winter does make sense from the point of view of stringing up soon to be magi out in the woods in the harsh conditions of winter and how much that would make life suck for them. However I've always imagined the after-party to be a big gala open air event (not that a bunch of Savacions couldn't make the courtyards of Leo Compulsus warm during winter).

A side note, I think Gladius and Aglaspis go to Gauntlets religiously. After all who else would enjoy a good hazing vacation more then those two. Also they have to make sure everyone knows that Amicitians can make good Savacions as well.

I have no preference re: gauntlets
Summer indeed makes more sense to me, given the difficulties of travel and suchnot, but I really have no preference.

I think that the "gauntlet late in 425" thing came about as an indirect result of the entire discussion of when the House would hold the next one, with people eventually deciding that it should be soonish/nowish --ie, in 425. And given that the current game is taking place in summer of 425, everyone just assumed "Oh, okay. I guess it'll be end of 425, then."

So I suppose the options are:

  • Summer of 425 (in which case it's happened already)

  • Coming Soon This Autumn! (in which case we assume that Leo Compulsus is asking people to travel and congregate in the off-season this year)

  • Spring or Summer of 426

I myself have no preference whatsoever.

Who’s afraid of a little cold?
I do think some of the more mountain-, snow-, and ice-dealing Savacions (cough Phrancor cough) would occasionally plump for a Winter Gauntlet. These are rough and tumble magi, after all. —But count my vote for Coming Soon This Autumn, if Winter doesn’t work this year.

Just to clarify re Gauntlet Options
Just to clarify, I meant "coming soon, this autumn!" to encompass the Winter Gauntlet option. Winter gauntlet still in 425=if you want to attend gauntlet, you gotta leave home for it well before Dissipation. Still autumn, by our own stupid calendar reckoning (or am I the only person who finds our RL seasonal designations to be really fucking irritating? Mid-winter should be the middle of winter, dammit, not the first day of it!)

'Course, it could be held later in the winter of 426, too.

Anyway. I'm cool with a winter gauntlet.
