The Years Between the Schisms: 340-358

The two decades between the First and the Second Manerean Schisms were years of diversification and experimentation for the Order, reminiscent in many ways of the burst of radicalism which had followed the Eleanorean Purge at the end of the third century. Relieved for a time from worry over the possibility of mage war, the Order felt more free to try out new approaches to both magical theory and Cholaeic organization: this period saw the Touccian Revolution, the Lemmite Diaspora, and the rise of Plenilunial Elementalism, Theophrastianism, and the mysticism of the Virginis In Litans.

The period between the schisms was also, however, one of great unease. Political change and disruption were sweeping across Tympania, and by the 350s, it had become clear to all that the peace of the Pan-Manerean Conference was unlikely to prove permanent. A strong undercurrent of uncertainty and anxiety ran beneath the innovations of the years between the schisms, a period which would come to an end with the Second Manerean Schism and the eruption of mage-war in the Dawn.
