A Brief, Hurried Note to Quartus Oriens

sent by slightly eerie means and at maximum speed:

To my most honored father do these words humbly present themselves, in search of kindred heart and companion mind. All health to you.

I write to inquire about the potential presence of our devoted friends within the walls of this our covenant. It is my belief that such a presence is at this time inappropriate to the full development of this covenant according to the best desires of our common acquaintance.

I flatter myself to think that I am familiar with your attitude towards the honorable mission of our devoted friends, and that you will consider my entreaty with your usual circumspection. In light of my recent contributions, I believe I stand in good stead to make of you what might otherwise seem an impertinent request.

To such an end, any information you might be able to provide me with to the benefit of current circumstance would be greatly appreciated.

I take my leave of you as duty sees fit, and remain in all things

your son

Do not let the fearsome shadows overwhelm your good sense...

Current negotiations would forbid their presence within your walls. Current negotiations which are only close to completion.
Our esteemed friend within your walls can not entirely be counted on not to invite further trouble.
Likewise, our devoted friends have been known to overstep certain boundaries.

However, shadows and premonitions, scouts, seem like the most that we would expect to trouble your door so early as this.

Further discreet enquiries shall be made on your behalf.

Poor Nil, it takes several weeks before another note, not particularly useful, arrives:

Further enquiries turn up very little. Our esteemed friends our willing to suggest that they imagine that it would not be inappropriate for their agents to be getting the lay of the land in a region where it is assumed they shall shortly be engaging in operations. However, they seem to agree that it would be most inappropriate for even their agents to enter the sacrosanct walls of a covenant undeclared and uninvited.

And the short response will sum up to:

I thank you for your patient endeavors in this regard. If you feel you have not exhausted the attentions of our honored friends, please remind them that I am, in all my capacities, at their utmost disposal so much as my responsibilities to the covenant allow, and would be glad to be apprised of their doings and opinions, the better to have some vague notion of where they're aiming so I know when to duck offer them such advice and direction as might prove useful to our mutual cause.

P.S. send money

The adjective of choice.

I'd always thought it was "gooooood friends."

They're Cristofereans. I suspect that the use of a particular adjective carries its own coding. Namely, the more laudatory, the more "OH MY FUCKING GOD THEY ARE SCARY" the implication.
