Tympanian beliefs about the Fall of the Theocracy
The Cult of the Saints grew so rapidly in Tympania that by 137 it became necessary for the Church to codify official guidelines for the investigation and canonization of reported new saints. It was also in this period, under the reign of Cyril's son Sarcon, that the Church was given a new organization and hierarchy, the Holy Writings codified, and state funds allocated for missionary expeditions to regions adjoining Tympania. By 152, the Church had become a major institution, with its own hierarchy and position within the Kingdom.
While the political structures of the Golden Age of Tympania were mostly swept away by the Andarean Invasion, the hierarchy of the Holy Church remained mainly intact, and under the Andar the Church was to have a far greater political influence than it had ever before enjoyed.
Foster-son of St. Sibellius, and later Iam's steed. Progenitor of a line of horses once mystically linked to the rulers of Rhowen.
The Holy Church Calendar consists of 18 months of 20 days, plus six High Holy Days. The calendaric cycle describes the creation of the world, and the liberation of humanity from the Theocracy. It focuses on the imperfect nature of humanity, expressed through the person of the Priest King of Vestra.
The Day of Ascension is the holy day most directly associated with Wisdom itself, the transcendent creator of the Universe and the instiller of purpose into everything. It is an abstruse holy day, with rituals which are often difficult for any but the most devout to truly comprehend. A good holiday for pomp and ceremony, for colored smoke and mirrors and flames.
Please note: this calendar is based upon the assumption that the Day of Dissipation falls upon the Winter Solstice, that is, 21 December on the Gregorian calendar. Given the method which the Council of Vestran Stewards first adopted to accommodate the year’s imprecise length, this is not always the case, and may vary as much as 6 days in one direction or another. Thus, this one-for-one comparison is to be used as a rough guide only. Management apologizes for any inconvenience.
